Berlin 1936

Berlin 1936

When Jesse Owens humbled Hitler.

It was important for Adolf Hitler to make the Olympic Games a showcase for the Third Reich. So the Games were hall-marked with Nazi symbols and Nazi propaganda.

For the first time the Olympic flame was brought from Olympia in Greece to the host city.

In many countries there was talk of boycotting the Games, but nothing came of it.

The negro Jesse Owens was the great champion with his four golds in athletics. Hitler’s race theories took a beating.

The famous «Bronze team» and rifleman Willy Røgeberg won most attention in Norway.
