Moskva 1980

Moskva 1980

Many nations boycott.

The Moscow Olympics took place just after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Norway decided to boycott the Games, as did the USA, West Germany and Japan, amongst others.

Nevertheless, the Games were a well-managed event. 80 countries took part - the lowest number since 1956.

The Soviet Union was best nation with 195 medals of which 80 were gold.
