In the shadow of the World Exhibition.
The Second Olympic Games were not a success. The event lay in the shadow of the great World Exhibition in Paris and attracted little attention.
There were few spectators, and the Games were spread over many months. The expression «Olympic Games» was hardly used at all. Many competitors did not know they were competing for Olympic medals.
Women competed for the first time, in golf and tennis.
Norway took part for the first time with two entrants in athletics and one shooting team.
