Innsbruck 1976

Innsbruck 1976

First Games with glass-fibre skis.

The XII Winter Games were originally awarded to Denver, Colorado, but because of internal conflicts they had to withdraw their invitation.

So Innsbruck held the Games in their 1964 Olympic arenas.

Glass-fibre skis were used in the Olympics for the first time, while Ice dancing and the skating 1000m were new disciplines.

Ivar Formo won the 50km Nordic, but the Games were a disappointment for the skiers. It went better on the rink, with golds for Jan Egil Storholt and Sten Stensen.
