Switzerland was a neutral country untouched by the World War’s devastations and St. Moritz was ready to undertake a fresh Olympics.
Participation was as big as for the last Games, but Germany and Japan were denied a place.
Meanwhile the alpine sports had become popular, so slalom and downhill were introduced as independent disciplines for both women and men.
The Swedes and Finns dominated the Nordic skiing and the Nordic combined.
Norway did best on the shooting range and in ski jumping where they managed a hat-trick.
