Joy of Sports – for All?
16 June – 3 Dec 2017
An exhibition on sports and poverty.
Is sports becoming a privilege for those only with enough money?
All children and young people have the right to participate in sports and other recreational activities. Still, there are many who can not attend because the family can not afford the costs.
"I wish I could attend gymnastics."Quotation from the book Youth and sports, 2016
Equipment, travel and membership fees cost more and more. At the same time, the differences between people increase.
11 percent of the population in Norway can be defined as poor.
Not having what you need for a living is usually something one does not talk loudly about, and therefore this situation is usually hidden from the surroundings.
How to include
In this exhibition you will be presented with the issue of costs in relation to young people, parents, sportsmen and equipment providers.
The exhibition gives no answers, and we invite you to reflect on how the joy of sports can be something for everyone to experience.
The exhibition is made in collaboration with researchers at the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. Top athlete Marco Elsafadi, who has experience of the subject himself, also participates.
